Partnership Intermediary Agreement (PIA)
The Griffiss Institute supports AFRL/RI through a Partnership Intermediary Agreement (PIA). A PIA is an agreement, (contract or memorandum of understanding), between the government and an intermediary organization, (state or local governmental agency or nonprofit entity). As a Partnership Intermediary the GI performs services for the AFRL/RI that increase the likelihood of success in the conduct of cooperative or joint activities with small business firms, institutions of higher education, and industry. The PIA facilitates a wide range of licensing and other technology transfer initiatives. Specifically, the GI provides assistance to AFRL/RI in Technology Transfer (T2), assisting in the identification of appropriate AFRL/RI technologies for CRADAs, EPAs, licensing and commercialization as well as identification of new technologies in the private sector that AFRL/RI can utilize and transfer to operational use.
The Air Force Technology Transfer (T2) Program was created to assure all Air Force science and engineering activities promote the transfer or exchange of technology with state and local governments, academia, and industry. These activities enhance the economic competitiveness of industry and promote the productivity of state and local governments while leveraging the Department of Defense (DoD) research and development investment. They can also serve academia by opening up expanded areas of exploration and cooperation.
