The Dine & Development Training Series is a collaborative effort, bringing together local businesses, Air Force Research Laboratory researchers, and academia to expose and inform the Central NY business and research community on technology-driven topics of common interest, and to also promote business development by providing networking opportunities among researchers and attendees.
Topic: Using Spatiotemporal Models of Objects to Provide Consumer-Centric Intelligence
The ubiquity of devices such as color, infrared, and RGB-D sensors in the consumer domain has enabled the explosion of datasets containing modalities such as 3D models, thermal videos, and depth data that capture user interactions with objects in real-world environments. In this talk, Dr. Banerjee will discuss her work on using large multi-modal data to provide consumer-oriented intelligent applications. She will discuss her early work on using 3D models to provide user-intuitive 3D manipulations to objects in images, and on performing real-time 3D pose estimation geared toward robot interactions with everyday objects. Dr. Banerjee will also discuss the current work being done at her lab at Clarkson University, the Terascale All-sensing Research Studio (TARS) on using spatiotemporal data on objects in the visible and thermal domain for performing novel forms of recognition and interactions in consumer living spaces for intelligent IoT. Finally, she will talk about her work on using dense multiple-viewpoint multi-sensor systems to generate novel types of spatiotemporal object models that enable enhanced user-centric intelligence.

Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Clarkson University
Dr. Banerjee received her Ph.D. in 2015 from the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, and her B.S. and M.S. degrees in 2009 from the Department of Computer Engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology. Her research lies at the intersection of computer graphics and computer vision and focuses on understanding spatiotemporal characteristics of objects in three dimensions using large databases of images, videos, and 3D models. She is co-founder and co-director of the Terascale All-Sensing Research Studio (TARS) at Clarkson. Her work received Popular Science magazine’s Best of What’s New Award in 2014, was a Finalist for the World Technology Award in 2015 and has been covered extensively by several media outlets such as the New York Times, Inside Science TV, Gizmodo, TechCrunch, Clarkson News, and North Country Now.
