DimensionU Hosts Second Annual Department of Defense Math Games

Richmond, VA — (SBWIRE) — 05/22/2015 — On Tuesday, May 19, 2015, DimensionU, Inc. hosted its 2nd Annual Department of Defense Math Games Tournament at military research laboratories around the country. Middle school students from four states competed in 6th, 7th, 8th and Algebra grade level teams. Each location represented a branch of the military and the respective STEM Outreach offices. Grade level teams from each location participated in five multiplayer rounds of mathematics-based video game play using DimensionU’s gaming platform. Similar to other DimensionU competitive educational gaming events, the tournament took place in a virtual, first-person action video game world, where students compete and interact as teams solving mathematics problems as part of their objective to win. The tournament was augmented with live video transmission across the four states, allowing students to see their opponents. First place team members from each of the grade level competitions were awarded $100 gift cards as their prize. Trophies were also awarded to each school with a first place team and each military research laboratory.

“The Department of Defense Math Games is one of our favorite annual competitive educational gaming tournaments to host,” said Steven Hoy, CEO of DimensionU, Inc. “The multi-state competition with live video feed is so exciting for the students, educators, military volunteers and STEM Outreach personnel. We are so thankful for everyone’s participation and contributions towards making this annual event possible and a huge success. We look forward to expanding to more sites and locations in 2016.”
