New York Air National Guard Showcase Brings Service & STEM to Griffiss International Airport Oneida County Hosts Display & Recruitment Event Sept. 13

The New York Air National Guard (NYANG) is partnering with Oneida County and the Griffiss Institute to bring its 2025 Showcase to Griffiss International Airport, highlighting career opportunities in service and STEM. The NYANG Showcase takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 13, 2025, at Oneida County’s Griffiss International Airport located at 592 Hangar Road in Rome. It is open to the public and free to attend.

“Oneida County is proud to host and support this initiative that reflects our strong commitment to both national security and regional innovation,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. “The NYANG Showcase brings together service, education and economic development in a way that empowers individuals and strengthens our entire community.”

The open house will feature:

  • Career and service exploration with Air and Army National Guard, active duty and reserve units.
  • Military aircraft displays including the LC-130, HC-130, B-52 and MQ-9.
  • STEM exhibits and demonstrations from regional education and tech partners.
  • Opportunities to connect with innovative companies and workforce development programs.

“We are honored to open the hangars and hearts to the public for this event,” said Major General Michael Bank, Commander, New York Air National Guard. “The Showcase is an opportunity to not only introduce our airmen, aircraft, and capabilities to our friends and neighbors, but to share what service means today, especially in science, engineering, and technology domains critical to our nation’s defense.”

The NYANG Showcase will also serve as a platform for local organizations and businesses to exhibit how they contribute to the region’s innovation ecosystem and national defense mission. The event will feature engaging activities for students and families, along with plenty of opportunities to meet service members, innovators and educators making a difference.

“Events like the NYANG Showcase reflect how Griffiss Institute’s commitment to public-private partnerships in the national security sector bring economic momentum to our region and upward mobility to our residents,” said Heather Hage, President & CEO of Griffiss Institute. “By connecting students, families, and professionals with opportunities in STEM and national defense, we’re helping to grow a workforce rooted in both purpose and possibility. It’s about building a future where young people see a clear path forward to service, and know they can take that first step from STEM to sky right here in our community.”
